Healthy Habits for a Happier Professional and Personal Life
Today, we want to talk to you about your mental health. We know, what a boring topic right? But, if you stop for a second and think about it, the health of your mindset is the key to living a fulfilled and happy life. When you wake up each morning, do you feel revitalized or do you agonize about the day ahead? Do you tackle the week with a countdown to the weekend or with excitement about your upcoming accomplishments? Here at Northwestern Marketing Concepts, we put an emphasis on productivity, work ethic, and mentality. Why? Because in order to be successful, you have to have the right motivation. This is why we have decided to share three daily habits that we believe will help you create a healthier, happier life, thus, giving you the ability to be successful in and out of the office.
A great day starts from the minute that you open your eyes. So, let’s make sure that you start each morning in the right mindset. For starters, you need to make sure that you are getting enough sleep. No matter how young or old you may be, a lack of sleep is the number one killer of productivity. So, set a bedtime and stick to it. On that same note, set an alarm each morning and force yourself out of bed at the first ring. We want you to get a good amount of sleep but too much of a good thing is never healthy. Now, you’re up. What next? Set aside thirty minutes every morning to do something for yourself. Exercise, read a book, call your family. It doesn’t matter what you do, just that you are doing it for you and not for your boss. This is your time to relax, collect your thoughts, and prepare yourself mentally to take on the day.
Our next bit of advice – take a lunch! We know that being in the business field can be hectic and time may not always be a luxury. But, trust us, stepping away from the day for thirty minutes will be beneficial to you, your team, and your clients. Fuel your body for the second half of the day, take a walk outside and soak up the sun, or simply sit on a bench and clear your head. Use this time for self-care. We know that this may seem unrealistic, but we are asking for your trust. Try it out for a week and we promise that you will see results almost immediately. Your brain is just like any other muscle in your body; It needs a break every once in a while.
Lastly, we want to talk about delegating work. This can be extremely difficult for those of you that like control but is a necessity if you want to be successful in the long-term. Put trust in your team members and give them the opportunity to shine. You are only one person and it is impossible for you to do it all. Delegating work to someone else does not make you a failure. It makes you a strong leader. So, make it a habit to look at your workload each day and choose one thing that someone else can handle for you. This will leave you stress-free and build confidence in your team members – the ultimate win, win.
So, these habits are pretty simple, right? Creating a morning routine is simple and effective. All you need to do is stick to it. We know that sometimes hitting the snooze button seems like a brilliant idea. But, all delaying the day will do is guarantee that your head is not in the game. It seems almost funny that we are having to remind people about the importance of stepping away and eating lunch. But, the world we live in today emphasizes go, go, go even though it should be go, rest, go! You can only achieve so much if your body and mind are not prepared. You are an entrepreneur, not a solopreneur. Rely on your team to help you get the work done and hold you accountable. Your mental health plays an important role in your long-term success. All our team here at Northwestern Marketing Concepts is asking is that you take the time to build up these healthy habits. Your life depends on it!
